Gin is a juniper spirit. Its name is derived from the French word for juniper, genévrier. The production of the brandy began in the Netherlands in the 17th century. Barley or rye malt is fermented as the basis. Juniper and other botanicals, i.e. selected herbs and spices, are added to the alcohol obtained either by maceration, percolation or digestion. Each producer uses its own composition, so each gin unfolds an unmistakably individual world of taste.
