Alfonso Bialetti was born in Omegna on 1 January 1888 and died in Zagarolo on 31 December 1970. The Italian inventor became famous for inventing the “Moka Express” in 1933 – the first coffee pot (as it is still called in Italy today) for private households. He himself sold it mainly at markets in the surrounding towns. It only became known worldwide after the Second World War through his son Renato Bialetti (1923-2016), who recognised the potential of the machine, applied for a patent and marketed it aggressively. The design of the machine has remained almost unchanged to this day.
